10 days and 9 nights to San Jose/Tortuguero jungle canals/Arenal volcano/Tamarindo Beach

Day One
Fly into the San Jose International Airport where a member of the national chamber of tourism will greet you and connect you with your private transfer. Settle in and enjoy an exceptional dining experience before heading for bed.Stay at Hotel Grano de Oro (deluxe room)
Day Two
Rise and shine early to be whisked away on your Caribbean kayak adventure(two person minimum)After an early morning departure from San José, we will travel east, riding through Braulio Carrillo National Park. We'll breakfast at Río Danta. Now in the Atlantic lowlands, we travel through banana plantations until we reach our starting point in the Tortuguero National Park Station on the Tortuguero River. Guides will begin the briefing to become familiarized with your boats, gear and safety issues. Starting at the boundary of the National Park on the Tortuguero River will be the most unique experience. Lunch will be along the way after an hour paddle down the river, in the middle of the Parks' tropical forest. After lunch, you will continue to meander in this lush forest with amazing flora and fauna. Late afternoon arrival at Mawamba lodge, welcome cocktail and dinner here tonight. We will overnight at Mawamba lodge both nights.
Day Three
After a great breakfast we will be shuttled by boat about 25 miles towards the Colorado River, passing through Penitencia Canal until we arrive at Samay Laguna. Here we will board our kayaks for a three to four hour exploration of this area. The "magical" entrance to Laguna Nueve and a brief visit to the beach will be today's highlight. Wonderful clean water and total solitude will be part of the experience. Lunch will be served at the site. Late afternoon return back to Mawamba lodge.
Day Four
After breakfast your will be transferred to the Tortuguero airstrip for a short, and amazing view-filled carbon neutral flight back to San Jose .Your private driver will be at the Tobias Bolanos airport waiting to escort you to the next segment of your adventure expedition…the majestic Arenal volcano!Stay at the Arenal Observatory (Smithsonian room) At Arenal Observatory Lodge, located, just 1.8 kilometers from the active crater of the Arenal Volcano, nature is bursting at the seams, tropical flora and fauna abound. The lodge features 37 rooms in a four-building spread on the property. Rooms are simple but comfortable and Smithsonion Rooms offer the best views of the whole town. The property has more on site and lengthy trails than the Arenal National Park and visitors can actually visit the old research center museums as well as the seismograph. The hot water Jacuzzi is perfect for evening relaxation.
Day Five
Cerro Chato Hike (Sunset Tours) It´s a hike for active hikers! Cerro Chato is the beginning of the Arenal Mountain Range. It´s an old dormant volcano with similar characteristics to the Arenal Volcano. Cerro Chato´s last active period was 3500 years ago.You will hike through lush rain forest and pasture lands, and witness spectacular scenic views. The tour begins at the Observatory Lodge. This is a transition forest area where you will begin to see the Tropical Rain Forest (taller trees, dense vegetation and rich biodiversity). Then we will witness the Cloud Forest; see epiphytes, ferns, orquids, sometimes spot toucans and birds, very similar to Monteverde´s cloud forest characteristics. During the hike our guide will keep you going offering you chocolate or granola bars and water. After a little rest we begin to descend to La Fortuna waterfall, this is the result of an emerging area of the formation of the Cerro Chato and Arenal Volcanoes. After we arrive at Fortuna´s waterfall we will enjoy a delicious box lunch including sandwiches and fruit. Your reward, at the bottom, if you wish, is a swim in the magnificent and powerful, la Fortuna Waterfall. Day Six
Full day Mountain bike adventure(El Castillo)( Sunset Tours) Sample the course of the famous two day Costa Rican annual bike race as you experience this rainforesty volcano area on two wheels! This ride will not only challenge you physically but allow you to see some off the beaten track towns, roads and the gorgeous Lake Arenal. Expedition comes complete with: Cannondale mountain bike (fitted to the size of the person)Helmet & gloves water bottle, transportation from your hotel in La Fortuna – Arenal area, support vehicle during entire tour, picnic stop, lunch, water, snacks and drinks available throughout the day and of course your bilingual guide and mechanic comes included as wellStay at Arenal Observatory Lodge (Smithsonian room)
Day Seven
Wake up this morning to your last few hours of this incredible and unique view of the volcano as you enjoy the complimentary breakfast buffet. Day Eight & Nine
These days are yours to enjoy however you please…relax those sore muscles from your earlier expeditions or hop of a surf board and catch some waves right outside your hotel! Lessons can be easily arranged. This hotel is in walking distance of numerous shops, bars and restaurants and your room has the best ocean view around. Day Ten
Wake up, have breakfast and await your transfer to the Liberia International airport (approx. 1 hour) to connect with your flight back home.
